Renault Review

Renault was established in 1899 and is a multinational vehicle manufacturer in France. The company produces a wide range of vehicles and is the third biggest European car manufacturer behind Volkswagen and PSA. Based in Boulogne-Billancourt, Renault also owns Automobile Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors. Currently the French government owns a 15 percent share of Renault. Today, as part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, the company is the fourth-largest automotive group in the world, although the core market focus is on Europe. The company is well known for its role in motor sport, with much success over the years in both rallying and Formula 1. Although Renault cars were available in the UK as far back as the 1970's, the brand was not popular when compared to other manufacturers such as Ford, Vauxhall and Austin Rover. However with the arrival of the Renault Clio model in 1991, they enjoyed a huge rise in popularity among British buyers. The Clio was regularly among Britain's most popular cars every year during the 1990's thanks in part to the highly successful "Nicole and Papa" TV advertising campaign. Renault went from strength to strength in the UK and by 2006 was the third most popular make of car in the United Kingdom, behind Ford and Vauxhall.
