Knowsley Safari Park Review

Knowsley Safari Park is located on the outskirts of Liverpool on a former RAF airfield which closed at the end of World War II. The park was opened in 1971 and is home to many different animals including elephants, giraffes, lions, bongos, tigers, baboons, Cape Buffalo, African Wild Dog, Emu, Wildebeest, White Rhino, Bactrian Camel and American Bison. The park is open to the public and customers drive around the park in their own vehicles (there is alternative route past the baboons as they have a reputation for mistreating the vehicles). In January 2011, local animal rights activists held a peaceful demonstration after an inspection by government vets found one instance of a breach of regulations. Pictures in the newspapers showed animals lying dead on the ground and in binbags, although the park claimed the pictures were staged. The park has a 15 inch gauge railway which visitors use to tour parts of the site.
