Russell Hobbs is a manufacturer of household appliances based Greater Manchester formed by Bill Russell (of Morphy Richards who famously helped design the pop-up toaster, the electric iron and the hairdryer) and Peter Hobbs (also from home appliance manufacturer, Morphy Richards) in 1952. The modern Russell Hobbs company manufactures Food processors, Electric kettles, Toasters, Vacuum cleaners, Irons, Sandwich toasters, Microwave ovens, Juicers, smoothie makers, electric hobs, Electric shavers and electric jar openers. In 1962 the company was sold to Tube Investments (who also owned Creda). In October 1990 the company went into administration and was bought by Pifco Holdings, Pifco in turn was bought by Salton in 2001 for £50 million and became known as Salton Europe. In 2007, Salton and Applica Incorporated through a merger and the combined company (formerly known as Salton, Inc.) changed its name to Russell Hobbs.
