Highland and Islands Airports Limited is a public corporation wholly owned by the Scottish Ministers and operating 11 Airports around Scotland at Barra, Benbecula, Campbeltown, Dundee, Islay, Inverness, Kirkwall, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Tiree and Wick. Highland and Islands Airports are vital to the social and economic welfare of the areas they serve, but do not themselves make a profit and are therefore supported by subsidies from the Scottish Government (around £14 million per year). Incorporated on March 4, 1986 by the Civil Aviation Authority. The Highland and Islands Airports Limited Head Office is based at Inverness Airport, Inverness, Scotland. The company employs almost 600 people and over 1 million passengers per year, with 580,000 passengers using Inverness Airport alone. The Highland and Islands Airport group connects regional Scotland to over 30 UK and international destinations, including Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, London, Southampton, Jersey, Amsterdam, Bergen, Dusseldorf and Zurich. In addition popular holiday destinations are served in Austria, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus and Portugal.
