JVC Review

JVC (aka Victor Company of Japan), is a Japanese international consumer electronics corporation based in Yokohama, Japan. They were founded in 1927 and the company is best known for introducing Japan's first televisions, and for developing the VHS video recorder. In 2007 JVC and Kenwood Corporation entered into an agreement to cooperate in their car electronics and home audio businesses under the joint holding company JVC Kenwood Holdings. In the late 1970's, JVC developed the VHS video format for video recorders to the consumer market. But Sony had already introduced the Betamax home video cassette system a year earlier, so the VHS system created the videotape format war with both companies competing fiercely, but by 1988 Sony began producing VHS recorders and in 1993 they stopped making Betamax recorders completely. In 1981, JVC introduced a line of revolutionary direct-drive cassette decks and they also marketed their own portable audio equipment similar to the Sony Walkman for a time. JVC video recorders were marketed by the Ferguson Radio Corporation in the UK, but Ferguson was later acquired by Thomson so the relationship came to an end. The JVC multimedia product range today includes DVC, DSC, DVD, Mini Disc Recorders, Video Printers, Colour Televisions, VHS Video Recorders, Camcorders, Mini and Micro Hi-Fi Systems, Hi-Fi Separates, Portable Audio and Car Stereo.
