United Airlines is a major U.S. airline based in Chicago and a wholly owned subsidiary of United Continental Holdings. United Airlines are the world's largest airline, founded in 1926 and renamed Boeing Air Transport in 1927 when acquired by Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer. United became an independent company in 1934, merging with Capital Airlines and then with Continental Airlines in 2011. They are a founding member of the Star Alliance, which is the largest airline alliance in the world connecting over 1,000 destinations in over 170 countries. United Airlines operates 706 aircraft, with their largest hub being George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Their frequent flyer program is called MileagePlus and the United Club is their airline lounge network. The former United Red Carpet Club and Continental Airlines Presidents Club have been replaced by the United Club.
