Castrol have developed their range of products both in research labs and on racetracks around the world. They have been involved in many landmark moments in motor racing, maritime and aviation history.Their long term involvement with motorsports has been the ideal testing ground for their ideas and innovations. The Castrol brand was first registered in 1909, when the engineers found that adding a measure of castor oil to their lubricants helped to keep the oil runny enough to work in cold temperatures at start-up, yet thick enough to keep working at very high temperatures. They called the new product Castrol and this was eventually adopted as the brand name.
