Peugeot Review

Peugeot is one of the major French car brands, part of the PSA Peugeot Citroën group, the second largest carmaker in Europe. Peugeot was originally founded in 1810 as a manufacturer of coffee mills and bicycles. The now famous lion trademark came along in 1858, and Peugeot built the companys first vehicle, a steam tricycle in 1889. The first passenger car with an internal combustion engine followed in 1890, using a Panhard-Daimler engine. The Peugeot company and the original founding family are originally from Sochaux in France, where Peugeot retains a large manufacturing plant and Museum, while they also sponsor the local Sochaux football club, which was founded by a member of the Peugeot family in 1928. In 1974 Peugeot bought a 30% share of Citroën, then took the company over completely in 1975 as Citroën was in financial trouble, allegedly caused by them developing too many new models with limited financial resources. The new joint parent company became the PSA group, even though separate identities and brands were kept for both the Peugeot and Citroën while they shared engineering and technical resources. The PSA group also took over the European division of Chrysler (formerly Rootes and Simca) in 1978 as the American manufacturer was also struggled due to financial difficulties.
