Glasgow Airport Review

Glasgow Airport is Scotland's principal long-haul airport offering year-round flights worldwide to Canada, the USA and the Middle East. Approximately 7 million passengers use Glasgow Airport each year to reach around 90 destinations around the world. Formerly Glasgow Abbotsinch Airport, the modern airport is located 6 miles west of Glasgow city center and is the second busiest airport in Scotland, after Edinburgh, and the eighth busiest airport in the UK. Glasgow Airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings which also owns and operates three other UK airports. The airport's biggest tenants are British Airways and Loganair, but many other airlines operate using Glasgow Airport as a base including BMI Regional, EasyJet, Jet2, Flybe, Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomson Airways. The airport first opened in 1966 flying to destinations in the UK and Europe. The British Airports Authority took control of the airport in 1975 and when BAA was privatised they expanded Glasgow Airport and began to offer flights to other destinations around the world. They rapidly overtook Glasgow Prestwick Airport which was subsequently relegated as the city's secondary airport.
